It is one of the top ten private cord blood banks globally, being the only player in Australia and having approximately 70% market share in Canada. Cord blood is rich in stem cells and is collected at birth from the umbilical cord. To date stored samples of cord blood and cord tissue have been used in over 40,000 transplants worldwide to treat approximately 80 conditions, primarily blood-borne diseases such as leukaemia. A number of future applications are also currently under development which could further expand the use cases for cord blood and cord tissue. |
